you’ve got to be kidding
i have always believed in and respected all forms of government. whether it be federal or "little people" i’ve always stood behind the belief that they are representative of an honorable process, one that can be trusted and believed in. i always believed in the asuc and the judicial council to, despite all of their very human flaws, carry out their duties to the best of their abilities.
i can honestly say that as of this moment, i no longer have faith in the judicial council or in the abilities of the ASUC. the decision that the judicial council has made is both bothersome and flawed and is reflective of a much larger issue at hand. this issue is having people in powerful positions who either won’t or can not stand up to the honor, distinction and pressure of the jobs that they have been charged with.
simply put, this whole situation has gotten way out of hand and until now, there has been no one in a position to truly challenge each branch of the government to perform honestly and efficiently. it is a sad time when that day finally comes and it becomes obvious that these unchallenged branches can’t stand up to the pressure.
here is some advice for future members of the judicial council/senators/ and asuc execs: if you are going to accept the job with which you have been charged, you take an oath for a reason. if you find that from the moment of appointment or election (certified OR not), that you are not strong enough, with enough character, or trustworthy enough to uphold it, then please, do everyone you will be serving a favor and decline to accept the office you have been offered.
to be clear, this is not a rant about everyone screwing up bc sa won. i not pro any specific person or party. i am, however, for branches of the government executing their jobs to the best of their ability and not giving in to weakness or to taking the easy route, and unfortunately, that is what has occurred in this instance.
when i sober up, i’ll post analysis specific to the judicial council’s decision. until then, be disgusted with the way in which your respresentitives in every branch of student government both past, but mostly present, have conducted themselves in the face of pressure and truth.

I just hope Igor gets the $1200 he spent on paying for a UCSA Congress delegation back now. That money was going to be subsidized by the external office, and then the officers charged with this duty bailed. Talk about people not fulfilling their jobs.

And Jason didn’t even show up to Congress. That’s our elected representative.

You can claim that the Council members bent to the pressure and took the easy way out. But be very careful in asking those members to resign since they aren’t strong enough for the demands of the position.
As soon as a member resigns, the parties in power are ready to appoint someone new who is either a covert party supporter (ie, dating an exec) or is intentionally too weak to really challenge them in the future.
Those Council members are the only hope for credibility and accountibility in the ASUC. Don’t forget that they sorted through the bullshit and found the truth, and held the offenders accountable to the public through the only means legally available in their interpretation. Don’t give up on them, just disagree with them.

also, #1, if Igor isn’t reimbursed, he should bring Jason to the Judicial Council. That would be fun.

let’s be honest people. Igor’s an idiot. he pretended he was EAVP for a month and acted like he had the job 100%. which, of course, he didn’t. (i’m not just talking trash either, i have insider info).

Igor originally placed the benefit of the doubt in Sharon, Jason, and Alan. They didn’t do shit, and, had he not used up much of his savings account on Congress, there would not have been a delegation.
Oooh, I have insider info too. What the hell does that mean anyway? You’re receiving partisan info from the external office because it’s bitter that it just sits on its ass and lets other people do the job?

Igor is the head of a student group (I think called ACCESS) which has a similar mission statement to the EAVP office. There’s no reason a student group can’t do the same things. And you know what, even if he was acting as EAVP, he technically had more standing to do that than Jason who was DISQUALIFIED during that month.
Dick.

bobby, that’s exactly what i’m doing, i am disagreeing. i would never ask them to resign. i just ask that people who take leadership positions make sure that they are up to the task at hand before they accept a position

giancarlo-
stop personally attacking people, that is not what this blog is here for

yeah. they just have no idea what they are getting into when appointed. it took me forever to convince the junior Justices that they were in for complete hell and that they had to take the duties very seriously. training people for this job is quite a challenge.

Generally, though, the Senate will try to appoint people who won’t do their job. Sometimes they get ambushed by a Mike Davis, though.

sorry for the personal attack. my point simply, was that people should have waited until the mess was over before assuming their positions. I think if Jason or any other SA exec started assuming the roles of the office, you would be making the same argument I am now.

Giancarlo, I hope you know there’s a difference between starting a few vital things such as GOTV and UCSA Congress organizing (Alan and Jason were invited in on all the details, by the way) and writing emails that are signed as Jason Chu, ASUC EAVP. I should also add that Igor never used an official title when he was conducting his work. Let’s just hope Jason picks up where he left off and that everything won’t go downhill.

I am not even going to mention the ridiculous EO’s that Oren filed before he (partially) retracted his power grab (he still employed the physical space of the office throughout this mess).
